Editorial policy
How we choose, check and publish stories.
Clear updates. Official links. Corrections on the record. This page explains what that means in practice.
Sources
- Original evidence first. We go to the agency notice, the official form page, the court document, the school or provider's own application page, the organizer's schedule or the underlying data.
- Independent reporting second. Other news reports help us find evidence and context; where we can, we follow them back to the source.
- Social posts and forwarded messages are leads, not proof. A screenshot or a flyer does not become true by being repeated.
- If we cannot open or verify a source, we narrow the claim or hold the story. We do not fill the gap from memory.
What a source can and cannot establish
An official notice establishes that a policy was announced. A court filing establishes that an allegation was made. A provider's page describes what that provider says it offers. We attribute accordingly and do not present an allegation as a finding.
Review before publishing
Every story is reviewed by an editor before it is published. Stories that interpret eligibility rules or report a consequential change get a second, independent check. Serious allegations, and stories involving children or victims of crime, need senior review before they run; without it, we hold the story.
Dates and times
We write dates in full and give the time zone for deadlines and events. Times on this site are U.S. Eastern Time unless stated. If a provider does not state a deadline time or time zone, we say so rather than guess.
Labels
Each story carries a section label such as Immigration, Education, Health, Community, Culture or Safety. Where it helps, we add a status: Update, Guide, Deadline, Open or Correction.
Keeping stories current
Listings with a deadline — scholarships, internships, events — are rechecked before we recommend them again. When the facts change, we say so in an Update. When we got something wrong, we say so in a Correction. See our corrections policy.
What we do not do
- No advice on individual immigration, medical, legal or financial cases.
- No predictions of immigration outcomes, and no "guaranteed" or "free" claims we cannot support.
- No political endorsements.
- No private-life gossip, and no unverified fundraising appeals.
- We do not publish details that identify children or victims of sexual offences.
Independence
Advertising and partnerships do not decide what we cover or how. Paid or sponsored content, if any, is labeled.
Readers' privacy
Corrections, source links and disagreement are welcome. Please do not post or send private documents. See Privacy.
