Indian Americans could get a first U.S. passport fully online by end of 2027

U.S. citizens may be able to apply for their first passport completely online without an in-person visit by the end of 2027, according to a report by Pubity.
The reported change would remove the requirement to visit an acceptance facility or post office for a first-time book.
Additional reports outline broader changes planned for U.S. passports, including online renewals and process improvements.
A redesign of the physical passport booklet is also underway, after a design was revealed under the Trump administration.
Official implementation schedules and finalized rules for online first-time applications have not yet been detailed by federal authorities.
For naturalized Indian Americans and parents of U.S.-born children, first passport applications would no longer require scheduling in-person acceptance appointments.
