Indian Americans tracking India portfolios face Nifty drop below 4-year average

The Nifty closed below its 4-year average for the second consecutive week after holding 22200 last week.

Of the 50 constituent stocks, 15 sit below their 200-week moving average and six are at that level.

Sectoral indices for IT and FMCG sit deep below their 4-year averages, while other sectoral indices hold above long-term averages.

Pharma faces local scrutiny for price gouging and U.S. pressure over patent infringement, while energy and infrastructure face political interference risk, especially given the current turmoil.

Friday's DjT tweet on Russian diesel notwithstanding, transport and insurance costs are expected to keep inflation elevated, alongside adverse weather and fertilizer supply disruptions.

The Reserve Bank of India instituted emergency-level measures over the weekend to address Fx/INR vulnerability and mop up excess liquidity.

These measures could pressure margins adversely.

After 9 weeks of down move, a bounce is possible, but its extent and duration is unknown.

Banks report quarterly earnings this week, with Nifty facing resistance at 22776 and Banknifty facing a resistance gap between 55918 and 56210.

Mutual fund inflow for September will be watched for its ability to support SMID names.

For Indian Americans tracking India portfolios, sectoral headwinds and key resistance gaps point to continued domestic market turbulence.
